April 18, 2024Reflecting on the Abilities Employment Symposium
The Greater Charlotte area recently played host to an event of unprecedented significance – the first-ever Abilities Employment Symposium. KennedyStrong Foundation was honored to be a part of this groundbreaking initiative alongside esteemed partners like the Charlotte Down Syndrome Association, Lifespan Services, and an incredible committee of like-minded organizations. Together, we united under a common goal: to empower individuals with diverse abilities on their journey towards meaningful employment.
KennedyStrong Foundation was thrilled to contribute to this transformative day, setting up a resource table brimming with support and information. But our involvement didn’t stop there – our founder, Betsy Boone, lent her expertise to several breakout sessions, guiding attendees on how to navigate the complexities of career growth.
The symposium was not just about discussions; it was about action. Participants had the chance to engage in vocational skill-building activities and connect directly with inclusive employers eager to welcome diverse talent into their teams. Bank of America, a dedicated sponsor and active participant, went above and beyond, offering mock interviews and hosting workshops tailored to empower individuals to grow their careers.
The collaborative spirit of the event was exemplified by the diverse lineup of speakers and panelists who shared their insights and experiences. From Anessa Powell, our panel moderator, to representatives from Bank of America, Work Together NC, NC Vocational Rehabilitation, and Amwins, , each speaker brought a wealth of knowledge and inspiration to the table.
As we reflect on the success of the Abilities Employment Symposium, we are filled with gratitude for everyone who played a part in making it a reality – from participants and vendors to our dedicated speakers and sponsors. The symposium may have been the first of its kind, but it certainly won’t be the last. With the continued support of our community, we are committed to making this an annual opportunity, ensuring that individuals with diverse abilities have access to the resources and support they need to thrive in the workforce.
Together, let’s continue breaking down barriers and building a more inclusive and equitable future for all. The journey towards empowerment and opportunity is ongoing, and KennedyStrong Foundation is proud to be at the forefront of this movement. Thank you to everyone who believes in our mission and works tirelessly to make it a reality. Onward, together, Inspiring Individuals for Life!
